Every marriage has its stresses, some more severe than others. Most of the
time, spouses benefit from the fact that they have semi-separate spheres that
they can retire to in order to get a break from each other. Usually that sphere
includes the work place; husband or wife can go to work where the pressures
of home don't follow them around. They can lose themselves doing inventory
or balancing the books with Sage (British Columbia based accounting software
developers) or any of the other menial tasks that can really help a person unwind.
For some people, however, the work and home spheres are inextricably intertwined.
Not only do they go to bed, wake up, eat, and hang out with their spouses, they
work with them as well. The mom and pop store is the most obvious example of
this case. The marriage relationship isn't confined to the King West Condos where family co-owners of a business live; instead, it is a factor at work as
well.
In this series of articles, we are going to look at a number of things that
should be brought into consideration when you are thinking about starting a
business with your spouse. Don't get us wrong; the considerations certainly
are not all negative. Starting a business together can be similar to the experience
of building a summer home. There's a lot of enthusiasm as you draw up
the cottage house plans. There will be issues of contention as well, and we
want to take a look at both angles.
The different issues you need to consider when going into business with your
spouse run a gamut of categories. First of all, there are the personal considerations.
Every person, and therefore every marriage, is very different from the next.
There are certain ways we push the buttons of our spouse that might just roll
off the back of another person.
Likewise, there are areas where we trust our spouses as we trust no other (you
know that you won't have any issues with the food media that resulted
from your spouse blowing a whistle, for example). Our articles will put some
emphasis on the importance of understanding your spouse and your marriage in
the context of a business.
The type of business you own together may also factor in to the work relationship
you and your spouse have together. Couples that work as agents selling Whitby
Ontario real estate are going to have a different experience than those who
own a grocery store. We want to take a look at how different roles in different
businesses might affect both the marriage and business relationship.
A lot of people find that relating to their spouses is at the same time both
the easiest and most difficult task of their entire lives. Working with your
spouse can be the same way; in this series of articles we will consider both
the pros and the cons, and provide tips on dealing with both.
