Did you know that in the Bible, there are specific verses that instruct how
government is to treat those who are recently married? Among other things, men
who had just been married were exempt from military service for one year following
their nuptials. This was a pretty big deal in Ancient Israel, where (just like
today) military service was required of all able body males over a certain age.
Those stipulations seem to indicate that throughout history, everyone has recognized
the importance of being together as a couple particularly in the early years.
If you think back to the time when you first got married, you probably remember
wishing you did not have to go back to work so soon. Whether you worked as a
water treatment chemical supplier or a salesperson, the end of the honeymoon
seemed to come too soon.
The same feeling probably arose again when you and your spouse began to have
children. All of a sudden your life changes in a big way; you are more concerned
about choosing disposable or cloth diapers than you are about the big account
that is coming in. Again, there is always the knowledge that you are going to
have to leave your family behind and return to work (for a majority of your
time). You will not be able to schedule time around your family's needs;
instead, work takes priorities.
Some people are able to buck this trend and stay with their families year round
by starting family businesses of their own. They see a specific need, often
within their communities, and realize that they can fill it without a commute,
without a boss looking over their shoulders every minute, and most importantly
without leaving their families behind. We are talking, of course, about home-based
family businesses.
In this series of articles, we are going to look specifically at different
types of businesses which can be run by a family from their own home. Rather
than have the family tailored around work, these businesses will be tailored
to the needs of the family. The wall lettering that makes a house a home is
just a few steps away from where the family income is made; it's both
relaxing and fulfilling!
There are a lot more family friendly businesses out there today than many people
realize. The traditional view of the mom and pop store is the house with the
business front. However, the information boom of the last decade has created
a wealth of businesses that can be operated from Erin Mills homes without having
to worry about storefronts or even inventory! We want to take a look at both
traditional and non-traditional family friendly businesses here.
If you have been looking for a way to spend more time with your family, starting
your own home-based business might be just what you are looking for. Find the
right one, and you will no longer have to get those gardening hand tools out
just on the weekends; with no commute, you can go straight out after work!
